Falling Big Fir Tree

This tree alone accounted for a whole logging truck load of logs.

This video was taken some distance away from where the tree was standing. The height of the tree is 250 feet, and it's 5 feet across at the butt. The faller, whose chain saw you can hear, is actually 60 feet down the side of an embankment.

Falling Big Cedar Tree

Video Begins With "Undercut" Already Completed

The undercut or v-shaped notch cut into the trunk of the tree pre-determines the direction that the tree will fall. The undercut also removes the bark and part of the tree to avoid shearing and "kick-back". Jim Foster shows how skill and years of experience make this "Big Cedar Tree" fall look easy!
